Hi,
Send me the top of your Runoff.dat file and I can tell you whether it came from XP or is a SWMM 4 file.

I'm sorry, feeling dumb here. I've never worked w/ xp or ver 4. I've received files from an associate to compare their old model results with mine using ver. 5. I don't honestly know if the files I received are from xp or 4. For each file name I have *.dat, *.out and *.int file extensions. Also, the file names are repeated with extran added and the same series of file extensions for those names, i.e. 100y24hr.dat, 100y24hr.out, and 100yr24h.int and then 100y24h Extran.dat, 100y24h Extran.int...

"You should create the .epa files first from the Runoff, Transport and Extran files" - If I only used one *.dat file to create the *.epa file is that file incomplete?

How does one convert the *.epa file for use with the 4to5 converter?

Is the *.epa file the runoff or extran file?

Thanks for any replies, Wes

The .epa extension is just a shortcut that I used for the converted file. It is the same as a SWMM 4 .dat or .inp file. The next step is to convert the .epa files to a SWMM 5 file.

You should create the .epa files first from the Runoff, Transport and Extran files and then use the SWMM4to5Converter.EXE to combine the Runoff and Extran files in one SWMM 5 input file.

Robert,

I have successfully converted *.dat files to *.epa, but don't understand how to get from *.epa file to the *.dat file necessary for conversion to SWMM 5. I need an extran and a transport file for conversion to SWMM 5. Is the *.epa file related to either of these?

It does not convert .xp files so you have to have already exported the .xp file to a .dat file.
===================================================

The DOS converter XPtoEPA4_jan_2004 will convert all versions of the XP-SWMM or Visual SWMM exported .dat file to the standard format EPA SWMM 44h formatted data file. You need to run the converter in a DOS window with one command line argument. For example, in the figure shown below the converter was run with this argument:

XPtoEPA4_jan_2004 25yr-72hr-20-lakes-update.dat

The converter will convert all that it can and then make assumptions such as converting non-standard XP-SWMM shapes to circular conduits in SWMM 44h. The converted file will have the extension .epa, which in this case was the file 25yr-72hr-20-lakes-update.epa. One note of importance; the XP-SWMM .dat file does not have the x,y coordinates of the nodes. You need to extract this information from the .out file of XP-SWMM. Once you have the SWMM 44h data file then you can use the SWMM 4 to SWMM5 data converter to convert to the SWMM 5 input data set.

XP to EPA conversion notes:

1. Start with a XP-SWMM .xp database.
2. Solve XP-SWMM to make a .dat file.
3. Use the XPtoEPA4 converter to translate the .dat file to an EPA SWMM
4.4 Data File.
4. Use the SWMM 4 to SWMM 5 VB converter to translate the SWMM 4.4 .dat
file to a SWMM 5 .inp file.

I have been given the task of updating a certain model done for the
county. It used SWMM Version 4.4GU, needless to say none of our
machines have this version of the software anymore. I currently have
version 10.07 installed on my computer.

So my question is can i convert a version 4.4GU to a 10.07?

Please let me know if you can help.

Leave a file or a message if you have a problem converting any SWMM 3, SWMM 4 to SWMM 5 or an XP-SWMM file to SWMM 4.4.
